Cambrian Dental Centre Welcomes Patients with the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

Cambrian Dental Centre is pleased to announce that they are now accepting patients covered under the new Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). This federal government program is designed to make dental care more accessible for eligible Canadian residents who do not have private dental insurance.

Understanding the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

The CDCP is a significant step towards improving oral health for many Canadians by reducing financial barriers to essential dental treatments. The plan provides coverage for a wide range of dental services, helping individuals and families maintain their oral health.

Who is Eligible for the CDCP?

Eligibility for the CDCP is being phased in and is based on the following criteria:

  • No Access to Dental Insurance: You must not have access to a private or employer-sponsored dental insurance plan.

  • Adjusted Family Net Income: Your adjusted family net income must be less than $90,000 per year.

  • Canadian Residency: You must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes.

  • Filed Tax Return: You must have filed your income tax return for the previous year.

What Dental Services Are Covered?

The CDCP covers a variety of essential dental services aimed at preventing and treating oral health issues. Covered services include:

  • Preventive Services: such as cleanings, sealants, and fluoride treatments.

  • Diagnostic Services: including examinations and x-rays.

  • Restorative Services: such as fillings.

  • Endodontic Services: including root canal treatments.

  • Prosthodontic Services: such as dentures.

  • Periodontal Services: for the treatment of gum diseases.

  • Oral Surgery Services: including extractions.

Some treatments may require preauthorization from the plan administrator. Our team at Cambrian Dental Centre will assist you in understanding your coverage and navigating this process.

What is Not Covered Under CDCP?

It is important for patients to understand that while the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) covers a wide range of necessary dental treatments, certain services are not included. The plan’s primary focus is on maintaining oral health rather than on elective or cosmetic procedures. As such, treatments that are purely for aesthetic purposes, like teeth whitening or veneers, are not covered. Major restorative procedures such as dental implants and orthodontic treatments like braces are also typically excluded from the plan. Similarly, specialty appliances, including night guards or sports guards, are not covered services.

Furthermore, patients should be aware that the CDCP has established fees and frequency limits for specific treatments. Any portion of a dental fee that exceeds the CDCP’s set rate, or any service that is performed more frequently than the plan allows, will be the patient’s responsibility.

Our team at Cambrian Dental Centre is committed to providing full transparency and will discuss your treatment plan in detail, ensuring you have a clear understanding of any costs not covered by the CDCP before proceeding with care.

Co-payments and Your Contribution

It is important for patients to understand that the CDCP is a cost-sharing plan, and some out-of-pocket expenses, known as co-payments, may be required. The amount of your co-payment is determined by your adjusted family net income:

  • No Co-payment: If your adjusted family net income is below $70,000.

  • 40% Co-payment: If your adjusted family net income is between $70,000 and $79,999.

  • 60% Co-payment: If your adjusted family net income is between $80,000 and $89,999.

HOW TO APPLY FOR CDCP?

The application process is designed to be straightforward. You can apply online through the Government of Canada’s website or by phone. You will need to provide your Social Insurance Number, date of birth, address, and information from your most recent income tax return.

Once your application is approved, you will receive a welcome package from Sun Life, the administrator of the plan, with your coverage start date and member card.
